Digital tools, like earth observation, sensors and drones, combined
with local talent and engagement of the communities can
revolutionize development by making it more resilient and
sustainable.
Resilience Academy (RA) is a World Bank-University partnership
model, which provides solutions for disaster risk management
and urban resilience through wide engagement of the university
students and communities. It is an action-oriented and
collaborative ecosystem of open data, affordable technologies
and tools, talented people, and institutions, which respond to
local climate and disaster risk management needs.
This session engages the panelists and audience to think and
brainstorm what are the success factors and challenges behind
Resilience Academy, and how could these experiences be turned
into similar solutions in other cities and other hazard prone
environments globally?
Our panelists will ponder combined value of citizen and student
engagement, open data, earth observation, disruptive
technologies, AI and innovations in accelerating resilience
benefits.
The session will challenge the audience to discuss how such
assets can truly become locally owned, impactful and sustainable
and what other issues should happen in a society for such digital
innovation ecosystem to form and grow.
The session will be an opportunity for different stakeholders (at
international, national, local and community level) to exchange
on how digital data and tools can enhance the resilience of
vulnerable countries and communities to climate change and
natural hazards. Via a dialogue between panelists and audience,
the session objective is to exchange and promote ideas improved
data services for spatial monitoring, decision support and disaster
risk management activities that are locally appropriate, scalable
and sustainable.
