After several intense days of learning about the risks we face and what we can do about them, it’s time to set our responses in action. In the Resilient Cities Investment Workshop, participants will have the opportunity to practice identifying disaster and climate resilience challenges and solutions in specific urban areas, apply their findings to their own cities, and develop and receive feedback on pitches for specific resilience investment projects.
The Workshop will start with a hands-on study tour of the effects of urban heat, in which participants will take heat measurements around the University campus, utilizing advanced sensor technology to develop a map showing different heat stress levels as a tool for resilience planning. It will continue with interactive discussions on identifying actions to mitigate heat and other resilience challenges, engaging with an interactive mapping tool showing various climate risks in several cities, and guidance on preparing socially inclusive investments. The Workshop concludes with an investment pitch session for resilience projects participants want to see implemented, with feedback and guidance for applying these in practice.
The Workshop is geared especially to public officials and practitioners who wish to understand overlapping hazards in cities and beyond and develop investment projects and programs to respond to them and achieve long-term resilience, though all participants are welcome to join. Attendance through the entire Workshop is not mandatory, though participants will find it beneficial.
The Workshop engaged participants in dynamic mapping exercises and the preparation of resilient urban investment project pitches, incorporating insights from the UR’s prior Technical Sessions.
