Professor of Natural Hazards Science / University of Edinburgh
John McCloskey is Professor of Natural Hazards Science, University of Edinburgh. He researches on basic and applied earthquake science in developing countries. He has served on the Cabinet Office Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies. He was elected Member of the Royal Irish Academy (2011) and placed 72 on the 2010 Sunday Times list of the 100 most influential scientists. He has won the European Geophysical Society’s Young Scientist publication award and the Institute of Physics Teacher award. He is Principal Investigator and Co-Director of the UKRI GCRF Tomorrow’s Cities Hub.
