Tomorrow’s Never Closed: the Future of Resilient Schools

In the face of the learning crisis faced by low- and middle-income countries worldwide, the WBG’s Safer Schools Thematic Area works to bring Japan’s expertise on building safer and resilient physical learning environments (PLEs) to countries seeking to invest in shielding children preemptively from the devastation of natural hazards, as well as in the continuation of school activities in their wake. In this session, we invite our partners to showcase their experience with the most cutting-edge technologies used for school infrastructure resilience, focusing on the solutions offered by AI and 3D construction, offering a glimpse into what the future looks like for DRM. After that, delegations from client countries will share case studies for those technologies being used in real pre- and post-disaster contexts and then open the floor for a moderated panel discussion where the audience will have a chance to ask questions and share their own related experiences. During the day, guests will not only have a chance to attend our session and join conversations on the latest topics related to school resilience, but also visit our booth for insights on our flagship knowledge products, the Roadmap for Safer and Resilient Schools (RSRS) and the Global Library of School Infrastructure (GLOSI). They will also have the opportunity to experience our 360° Virtual Reality Experience and witness firsthand the occurrence of a magnitude 8 earthquake through the eyes of a young Peruvian girl. The Safer Schools Thematic Area offers unparalleled expertise in addressing the global challenges surrounding safer and climate-resilient school infrastructure. At UR24, we extend a special invitation to guests to discover how we’re leading the charge in enhancing student health, well-being, and learning outcomes in the most vulnerable low- and middle-income countries. Join us to explore our mission and be part of the solution for a safer, more resilient future for students worldwide.
