Local Knowledge in the Climate Services Last Mile: Dimensions, Roles and Challenges
Climate services have recognised potential in reducing the impacts of extreme events such as droughts, heatwaves, and cold spells. However, the uptake of climate services faces several barriers, including the challenge of recognising and integrating the local knowledge and customs of users. In this session we explore the roles and use of local knowledge in climate services: What constitutes local knowledge? Who are the holders and what dimensions does local knowledge have, and how can it be considered? We explore these questions in short introductory presentations, and an exchange of insights and experiences in a World Café setting. Finally, we put our knowledge to action in a serious game. Will local knowledge be a winning strategy? Perhaps!
