NASA Lifelines Extreme Event Simulation
The session will be a large group playing the game Extreme Event, an award-winning in-person role-playing game that gives participants a taste of what it takes to build community resilience in the face of disaster. Players work together to make decisions and solve problems during an engaging, fast-paced disaster simulation in a earthquake, hurricane, or flood. The NASA lifelines team will lead participants through the game and subsequent reflection and brainstorming session on how the experience in the game applies to situations that they have dealt with in the real world and whether and how it has shifted their perspective on experiencing a crisis. We will focus a discussion on how risk preparedness can improve through adoption of human centered design principles, and how satellite data can support effective disaster response.
