Towards a Green, Resilient and Inclusive Built Environment

To create an enabling environment for resilient, green and inclusive built environment, we need to work beyond silos and build strong partnership between public and private sectors. In this session, we will invite countries interested in embarking a journey to strengthen their built environment and discuss concrete opportunities that the World Bank and GFDRR can support. Participating countries with an interest in this area will be proposed by task teams who will bring in clients to UR. Specific challenges will focus on country specific priorities, but some examples could include: • Developing and adapting country specific hazard and risk information for building design codes to improve resilience of the built environment to disasters and the impacts of the climate change; • Lessons learned and strategies for improved building code implementation, including compliance mechanisms; and • Considerations for adopting international codes: how to successful tailor and adapt international codes for a new country context. This session will be designed to build upon and complement the proposed Technical Session on incorporating hazard and risk information into building design codes.
