Dr. Emi Kiyota, Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore, is an environmental gerontologist, consultant, and organizational culture change specialist with over 20 years of experience in person-centered care practice in long-term care facilities and hospitals worldwide. Her work focuses on quality improvement in the built environment for long-term care and aging services, particularly in low-middle income countries. In 2010, she founded the charitable organization Ibasho, dedicated to co-creating socially integrated, sustainable communities valuing elders. She holds a PhD in architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and has received prestigious fellowships, including the Loeb Fellowship at Harvard University, the Rockefeller Bellagio Residency Fellowship, and the Atlantic Fellowship for Equity in Brain Health at University of California, San Francisco.. Currently based in Singapore, she is exploring incorporating Ibasho into the Health District@Queenstown, aiming to design an age-friendly community for enhanced health and well-being across life stages.
