Gaetano Vivo is Deputy Head of Unit, Prevention and Preparedness Capacity Building at the European Commission's Directorate General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Operations (DG ECHO). Gaetano has 20 years of experience working on disaster and climate resilience, including in post-disaster and crisis situations. Before joining the European Commission in May 2016, Gaetano worked as a Disaster Risk Management Specialist for the World Bank, where he was Team Leader for investment projects in several Latin American and Caribbean countries. Previously he worked as a Partnership Specialist for the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) in Washington DC and Brussels, and with the Civil Protection Department of the Italian Government. He holds Master’s Degree in Communications and Political Science from the University of Bologna, Italy.
