Gill Jolly

Natural Hazards and Risks Theme Leader Gill is a volcanologist from the UK, researching magma physics for her PhD. She worked at the British Geological Survey for over 10 years on topics as diverse as mineral exploration, environmental geochemistry and monitoring the Soufriere Hills volcano, Montserrat. In 2006 she moved to NZ where she has had various strategic leadership roles and has been involved with volcanic and earthquake responses, notably the 2016 M7.8 Kaikōura earthquake and the 2019 Whakaari eruption. Since July 2023, she has been seconded to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment as their Chief Science Advisor.
