Katie Peters is a disaster risk reduction (DRR) expert with over 20 years experience across the globe. Katie specialises in the intersection of DRR, climate change and fragility, conflict and violence (FCV). She has worked as a consultant for the World Bank’s GFDRR Disaster-Fragility, Conflict and Violence Nexus Thematic Area since 2022. Her experience includes integrating risk analytics into World Bank processes such as Risk and Resilience Assessments, post-disaster damage and needs assessments, and the design and delivery of grant and lending operations.
Previously, Katie worked for over a decade at ODI as a Senior Research Fellow. She has also worked as an advisor and researcher with the Institute of Development Studies, CARE UK and Saferworld. Katie has led multi-disciplinary research teams, authored over 60 publications, is a Founding Board Member of the Environmental Peacebuilding Association.
Katie specialises in qualitative research methods and has conducted fieldwork in over 17 countries across South and South-East Asia, the Pacific, South, West and East Africa, and the Arab States region. She worked as Principle Researcher and lead Technical Advisor supporting the governments of UK, Australia, Germany, Switzerland and Japan. Katie has designed and managed research collaborations with an extensive range of UN agencies, international development banks, and was Deputy Director of a £120 million Knowledge Management Consortium working with over 120 non-governmental organisations.
