Koichi Kusunoki is a Professor at Earthquake Research Institute, the University of Tokyo. In 1997, he completed his Ph.D. program at the University of Tokyo. After, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Industrial Science in the University of Tokyo and as a researcher at the Building Research Institute (BRI) of the National Research and Development Agency, Japan, he became the chief researcher at the Building Research Institute(BRI), Japan. After being sent to the University of California at San Diego for a year, he moved to Yokohama National University Graduate School in 2006 and became an associate professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Yokohama National University. He became a member of the University of Tokyo Earthquake Research Institute (ERI) since 2014 and has become a professor at the University of Tokyo Earthquake Research Institute (ERI) since 2018. Major research topics include health monitoring of structures, experimental research on structural performance of reinforced concrete structures, and damage investigation in earthquake-damaged areas.
