Dr. Nobuyuki Tsuchiya is Deputy Director of the Japan Riverfront Research Center and Lecturer at Monozukuri University. Having worked for 43 years in various aspects of urban development in Tokyo, Dr. Tsuchiya has extensive experience in urban planning and engineering, river restoration and transportation. He is also the person in charge of Edogawa City's crisis management. In 2008, he organised the Sea Level World Cities Summit in 2008 to ensure flood safety in the zero-meter zone. Dr. Tsuchiya has also worked with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to provide technical support for urban planning and rezoning in Thailand. Currently, he is providing technical support for land subsidence prevention efforts that are underway in Jakarta, Indonesia. As an academic and experienced member of the community development committee for recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake, Dr. Tsuchiya worked on the reconstruction of Onagawa Town, Miyagi Prefecture, and achieved the reconstruction of a town with a view of the sea.
