An expert in Public Policy and Programme Management, Nomsa has extensive experience developing and operationalising policy frameworks, programmes and projects in various thematic areas, including disaster risk reduction, multi-hazards early warning systems, peace and security, humanitarian response and post-disaster recovery. Nomsa has worked with the African Union Disaster Risk Reduction Unit since 2017, supporting the development of policy frameworks, monitoring and reporting frameworks and giving technical guidance on monitoring and reporting on continental policy frameworks, programmes and projects. She supported the design and implementation of the Africa Multi-Hazard Early Warning and Early Action System (AMHEWAS) and is currently leading its delivery programme. She led the development of the monitoring and reporting framework for the Africa Programme of Action for the Implementation of the Sendai Framework in Africa and its operationalisation through the development of the Africa Biennial Report on DRR. She expects to share experiences and gain knowledge on good practices on Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems, which will inform her and the AU’s efforts to strengthen MHEWS in Africa.
