Professor of Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University from 2012. His current research interests are risk evaluation, disaster reduction planning, emergency management system, and a long term recovery process. He also makes field survey about disaster response and recovery in Asian countries. He received his B.E. in architecture in 1991 from the Kyoto University and his M.E. in architecture in 1994 from the Kyoto University. He received his Ph.D. in Engineering in 1997 from the Kyoto University.
