Professor Sakiko Kanbara is a professor at Kobe City College of Nursing. She has spend in Kobe since 1996, received her BS and MS in Health Science from Kobe University and her Ph.D. from Okayama University, studying global health and disaster nursing. She earned her place as a researcher at the University of Hyogo, and the University of Kochi, Japan, and a community care practitioner on disaster recovery and risk reduction in Asia country, and founded EpiNurse, which won the Risk Award 2017 UN Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction. In 2018, her hometown in West Japan was severely affected by these floods, and she has closely worked with volunteers, relevant stakeholders, and the local government for response and recovery. She will be the Chair of the World Society of Disaster Nursing biennial conference in Kobe in 2024.
