Tsutomu Iwata is a mayor of Susami Town, Nishimuro District, Wakayama Prefecture. After joining Susami Town Hall in 1970, Tsutomu served in various positions, including Chief of the Welfare Division, Deputy Director of Education, and Chief of the Waterworks Division, before retiring from the town in 2006. Subsequently, he became a member of the Susami Town Council in 2007 and was elected as Mayor of Susami Town in 2011. With a population of 3,600 residents, he is dedicated to protecting their lives and livelihoods by focusing on disaster prevention and mitigation measures. Additionally, he actively incorporates ICT (Information and Communication Technology) to realize initiatives such as revitalizing the town, promoting settlement of younger generations, boosting key industries, and restructuring transportation systems.
