Sendai Framework Monitoring: Why not for Municipalities?

As the host city of the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, Sendai City has worked to implement the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030. Having reached the halfway point of implementation of the Framework, Sendai City and the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS), Tohoku University, have conducted a joint assessment of the progress so far. This midterm review of the progress of the Framework in Sendai City is the world’s first attempt by a municipality. In this session, we highlight the process of incorporating Sendai Framework Monitoring into their operations as well as policy implications.
